Kirwick Station was the second station on the Shepherd East Line of the SRN. As well as a station, it served as the primary base of its deisgner (and Shepherd East Line Manager) 20.png Slomo_1994. The station also served the Shepherd Ring Line.

About

The station was designed in a British Victorian suburb style, with the exterior based on Hanwell Station in West London. The station sat very far south for an East Line station, owing to difficult terrain and biomes. The station was right in the middle of Kirwick town, and was accessed from 2 entrances: the main one to the south, or the side entrance to the north. In Dogcraft lore, it was built by the Great Eastern Railway during its expansion to spawn.

The station can be approached by various means. Obviously, the Shepherd East Main Line ran through the station, with a tunnel to the West and the large Kirwick viaduct to the East, as the line ran through the town. The station had two connections for the Shepherd Ring line, with the connection going North expected to join to Caelon. No route was planned for the Ring line South, but it still went through Kirwick at street level, going past the Slomo Corp Factory complex (a repurposed POI from the Survival 4 Husky East Line from Hub station to Meridian). There were also two (currently unused) branchline terminals. The station was reachable by foot along the RHN's Shepherd Turnpike and Kirwick Road, where there was a small stable facility. Eventually, Kirwick Road led to the Caelon/Leon road. A CSC port was located close to the station, on the North side, visible from the platforms. The station had an NTN portal.

Inside the station, you found all the SRN essentials, including beds, crafting tables and an ender chest.

Outside the station, there was a small plaza to the south, which included a small Monty Coffee shop, nestled inside one of the railway arches. The rest were used as garages by the owners of the townhouses opposite. To the North, there was a small park.

History

Station

The station was designed before Survival 5 started, with the plan being for the station to be the first on the East Line, and in a temperate biome, (e.g. a forest/plains). However, when the server reset, this was very much not the case. The majority of the land to the East of spawn (especially around East Station and Kiriwick) were all warm biomes (e.g. Desert, Savanna). This posed a problem for a station with greenery elements, and so the design for East Station was eventually slotted in.

During the design phase, numerous elements were chopped and changed, the most noticeable being the addition of the branches. These were added with advice from senior members of the NTN.

It was difficult to find the right spot for Kirwick due to the large mountain range to the West of the station, therefore compromises had to be made. The way the station was designed and placed required a tunnel for the mountain, and this was designed by 20.png DragonFire441, a smaller version of the original. The larger version has been used on the line between Kirwick and East. Both tunnels came out very well.

In terms of lore, more about Kirwick and the entirity of the East Line can be found on this page.

Port

The port was designed as an submission for the Connected Seas Competition Winter 2023, where the idea was that it was an effort to regenerate the area. As part of this, several areas of the waterfront patches were finished off.

The port won the connectivity award, as well as receiving commendations in the accessibility and beauty categories.
