Aurora Borealis is the base of 20.png Cosm1c_Moonl1ght on the Survival 5 world of the Dogcraft Server.

About

This base consists of different islands, both decorative and functional, starting with the main island, it originally started out as a flat turtle beach before I decided to have a go at terraforming it. I started by choosing a colour palate (cobble, mossy cobble, tuff, smooth basalt, cobbled deepslate and normal deepslate.) Before deciding I wanted more of a higher island I could build on at different levels. During the first stages it was quite a small area, so I decided to expand it a little to make more building space, this was easily done by adding sand and stone as a base, before I covered it in my chosen blocks.

The photo shows a small cottage style house, custom landscaping, decorative foliage and a few farms. (sugarcane and potato.)

From there I started to add trees, moss, and flowers to give it a slight forestry feel. This eventually led to me adding a few farms such as sugarcane, potato's and wheat (not shown) to both add to the look and as a food source, I decided to use unlit campfires to make a sort of surrounding deck with 'pillars' to 'support' the farms. This lead to the island slowly becoming more of a plant/forest inclined base.

The surrounding islands were all custom made by me (cosm1c_moonl1ght) and they biggest one posed a big challenge. both with the amount of materials needed to both form the base structure and to customise the top. it took a lot of breaks and procrastination before it was finally finished, in which I built a few smaller ones during the breaks. I decided on greenery down the bottom (moss and grass blocks) before transitioning up to Blackstone at the top, the idea of this was to give it the idea of slowly dying as it got further away from the water.

The rainbow feature above the cottage came about after being gifted the materials by (??) during Christmas. I've had a lot of comments about people liking it when they visited. It's also one of my favourite things I've made.

As my base continued to develop, it started to extend downwards. originally with the intent of mining out 1 chunk in order to make a hidden mob farm. This ended up extending 5+ chunks in all directions, leading it to turn into the main base of operations. When creating an entrance to the underground I decided to make a wide enough 'pipe' so that I could easily fly in and out. I did test out a spiral staircase (not pictured) but it ended up taking longer and needing more space.

Upon entering the first thing you see are 3 decorative wall, dedicated to different gifted items, game prizes/items and banners. Due to the large amount of items received, I decided that it needed it's own space to be properly appreciated.

A archway library entrance that leads to a bamboo farm.
Ore deco wall.
A stained glass window patterned with an allium. (my favourite flower.)

I ended up liking the way deepslate, skulk and copper blocks went together, so that became the main underground theme, although I eventually added areas of colour when decoration. As time went on I added more rooms and storage areas, different places for animals and farms, along with straying away from my original block palette and using more colours and textures.

Towards the end of building my base, I had Elasmotherium, a fellow player and helper, build me a redstone themed tree to 'filter' the underground air. This was built near my own attempt of a redstone tree that had 'roots'.
