The Dogcraft Sandbox is an unofficial, whitelisted creative free-build Minecraft server operated privately by 20.png William278. The Sandbox is widely used as a space for preparing personal, group and official builds to be built on the official Dogcraft Server and has been used to plan most of the largest projects, ranging from cities such as Ouranos, the City of Gaiaβ€”to major pieces of infrastructure, including the Survival Railway Network and Nether Transport Networkβ€”to official server Events, such as annual seasonal areas, seeing particular use by the Dogcraft Creative Team during periods of official build server downtime.

The Sandbox is free to join and use, though is whitelisted and invite-only. A survey is held annually to monitor usage and gather feedback. In addition to William278, a number of operators assist in the task of maintaining the whitelist and minding the server console to ensure the service remains available 24/7.

History

The Dogcraft Sandbox has its roots dating back to mid-2017, as a creative server operated by 20.png Brianetta for the planning of the City of Havana on Survival 2. In late-2018, the current world used by the Sandbox was created by 20.png William278 to aid the planning of East Station on Survival 3, hence the choice of the server's Mesa red-sand desert Superflat preset. In early-2019, Brianetta's server closed, after which a number of builds were transferred over to William278's new server.

In June 2020, the first annual survey was held, where users requested a channel for news posts. Surveys are held annually, announced in a Discord channel every year. In 2021, a simple code of conduct was established for the server and 2022 saw the introduction of a number of quality of life improvements, such as the ability to upload schematics through a web panel.

Major builds

The Sandbox has been used to plan a plethora of major projects on the server. Examples include:

   - The city projects of Gaia, Takeshi, Lotus, Alina and others on Survival 4's two worlds
   - Caelon on Survival 5
  • All SRN and NTN main lines since Survival 2, as well as more recent projects such as the Road and Horse Network and .Path Network Group
  • Many server events, such as the Halloween events in 2019, 2020 and 2022 and Christmas / New Year's events in 2019 and 2020
