This is a great idea, i am on board.
my two cents are, could you mark out builds with redstone and have an example of build style/colour pallet. so that we can come along in our off time and create a tavern/town house/shop/harbour ect....
i like the idea of not useing the nether portals, as it gives a sence of distance and great adventure haveing to walk and stop off alone the way, resting at inn's and tents which will be skattered along the path. sort of LOTR's style. it would open the world.
