Server updating to 1.13
« on: February 22, 2018, 03:30:20 pm »
I have a question about how when we update to 1.13 is going to work? reading articles it sounds like only unloaded chunks will get the new ocean biome updates... will that be any different on the server? Or will we have to travel to untraveled locations to find the new stuff?

Hi Lego.

The Sur2 map has a border set up specifically for that purpose. However, I cannot remember how far out from spawn it is. I think someone said it was 15,000 blocks out, but not entirely sure.

It would be nice to have a portal/end gateway at spawn or someplace that sends you to a new spawn in new chunks. Or would that go against the grain? I might start playing on Sur1 or 2 after the update but I want to be in new terrain.

I've noted some spots on Amp where I saw lava fall for the first time so that I can go back to them after the update to get fresh terrain nearby.  So fortunately it shouldn't be too hard to find it on Amp.  On the Amplified world a lot of the negative coords are still unexplored, even fairly close to spawn, because the /rtp on Amp ONLY sends you to positive X and Z coords.

I'm sure they won't update the server right away when 1.13 hits. The plugins need to be updated and they need to know exactly what effect the update will have on the current world before they update the server. So we'll have to wait and see!

OK do they have a special way that new ocean chunks could be loaded into un-edited ones?

There has been no word on this. We know that Mojang can do this, because they did it with the Ocean Monuments, but we don't know if that's their plan this time.

I saw on the mine craft wiki that currently only unloaded chunks will update...

Maybe they have inside information, although I'm more inclined to suspect that it's an educated guess.

let's hope for the educated guess option.

I think it would be useful for players if NTN tracks would extend far enough to easily reach the new areas when the world border gets moved further away to expose new 1.13 chunks.

(note: NTN = Nether Transport Network)

I think we should build the NTN to the Overworld worldborder (15000 blocks or whatever it is) in the Nether so that once and if the border expands players can easily hop through a portal to the new land

I am just worried about the Phantoms. Or i would be if i wasn't the first one to start sleeping when we get a sleeping drill.

The Phantom is already nerved down a lot, and on the server with the poor spawn rates... I wouldn't worry about it too much. :)

And the sleeping drill on the server, this is my opinion about it; A joke is fun, 1 time... 2 times, 3th time... well okay... 4th.. It gets annoying. I know you're free to join the sleepcycle, but some people should really do a step back in their demanding behaviour if some player just decide to play on. (there's always a second night -if skipped- in 10 minutes)
