"The End is a hazardous and off-putting world, and is usually best avoided. However, those that do venture there return with many otherworldly goods (provided they don't wind up going mad or being swallowed by the void.) These brave adventurers have returned with curiosities like the Chorus Plant, the means of processing it into Purpur, and most popularly the insectoid Elytra glider-wings.
"Recently another discovery arose from the End:
Cucurbita occasus, commonly known as the End Pumpkin. The unusual gourd is the result of experimentation on the part of extradimensional agriculturalists, who discovered that the usually inhospitable end stone can be ground down into a mineral-rich grit and mixed with Overworld loam and water to create a base that many fungi thrive in. These fungi in turn enrich the soil, making it hospitable for other crops–like pumpkins.
"The End pumpkin is immediately distinguishable from its Overworld cousin by its dark coloration, the spores that drift through the End apparently seeping into any organism that stays in prolonged contact with it. Further examination shows a much harder skin and firmer flesh than the common variety, with a deep purple hue.
"
Cucurbita occasus has quickly become a darling of the End's denizens. Extradimensional homesteaders value the fruit as a food source, being far more nutritional than the #1 crop in the End, chorus fruit. Contests are held to cultivate the largest possible gourd, and some are so taken with it they take to wearing an End pumpkin on their head. Even the End's natives are taken with the crop, having been spotted on several occasions carrying away a pumpkin into the End's perpetual night."
