Session Timeouts...
« on: November 03, 2018, 09:41:22 am »
Hi,
I have been having issues connecting to dogcraft lately.
I recently changed my internet service provider as the previous lot couldn’t give me adequate speeds. However now I’m with a new group, I finally, after two months of mucking around, have acceptable internet speeds.
Now this sounds good. And believe me, going from 8Mbps to 46Mbps is great. However I keep dropping out. I have been in conversation with my ISP. And they have run several tests. And have fixed all the faults they can find.
It has been suggested to me to port forward to the minecraft server.
Does anyone have experience with this? Will this even help? Or just make things worse?
Also, how do I do it? I found some guides and videos, but most minecraft ones are to setup a home server. And the tutorials aren’t that helpful either.
So if anyone has information on port forwarding, or how to prevent session Timeouts, it would be most appreciated.
I suppose I should clarify, when dogcraft sessions timeout, I can still be using the internet elsewhere non stop. For example watching YouTube videos etc. or perusing discord.
And it isn’t a problem with my computer. Because when I connect my phone as a hotspot, I have no issues.
Again, any help will be appreciated.

I doubt port forwarding will help in this case.

Are you able to connect to the server at all? How often do the timeouts occur?

yeah, i can connect to the server.  Sometimes, like tonight, i have no issues, but last night, i was disconnecting about every 5 minutes.  Until i changed the internet to my phone, and had no troubles.

You could try to flush your dns. On windows open the command line and do the following;

Code: [Select]
ipconfig /flushdns

I have no idea what that means or what it does, but thanks, I’ll give it a go tonight.
I know how to get to command prompt so should be easy enough.
Thanks for the advice mattigins

Are you getting the java.io.IOExeption? Forcably closed by a remote host?

I do get that one occasionally iron. There’s two different messages I sometimes see. I forgot what they are though. But that does sound familiar. I’ll try and remember to write it down next time 😬

Yes. It’s definitely that one. My wife just texted me saying she’s getting the error too (I’m at work)
It’s

Internal Exception: java.io.IOException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

The other thing is, my wife plays on another server too and gets this message too. So I’m thinking it’s not a dogcraft only thing. More than likely my side is not doing what it should. It feels too coincidental that the problems started when we changed ISP’s.

Theres a lot of servers having the same issue. Some people have had success with using a VPN and others have had it stop by using their systems version of java and not the one provided by the launcher

Oh, ok, interesting,
how does one go about changing to the system java rather than the launcher? as that sounds easier than getting a VPN.

Thanks for the information though.  Here Ive been thinking im going crazy

Ok, a quick progress update.
I tried following that link and changing the used java to the system java, rather than the minecraft version. But I was still getting the timeouts.
So I tried the ipconfig /flushdns. And I haven’t had any since. It’s been three nights worth of playing now and not one. 🤞 I didn’t just jinx it.
My wife, whom was also having the same issue, has done only the flushdns command. And similarly hasn’t had any disconnects from her server either.
Thanks Mattigins for the tip.

Ok. Another update on this. I’m still getting lots of disconnects with that javaio stuff.
Tried the ipconfig /flushdns. But nothing changes. Tried changing the java version.  But it wouldn’t let me.
Googling just now led me to a wiki page where it says if you’re changing to a java version greater than 9, to delete
-XX: +CMSIncrementalMode
From the jvm arguments. So I’ll try that tonight.

🤞 it works. I feel bad for people seeing me leave and reconnect all the time.
