is it worth playing single player survival?

  Dear Fellow Cyberdogs and Minecrafters,
Recently I have been debating with myself on whether or not it is worth playing single player survival mc. I have tried starting a world but ended up abondoning it because I had mixed feelings about it being worth the time and effort. On one hand there is no limit to what i can do or where i can build, there is no other builds i have to worry about, there is no chance of griefing, I will not get into an argument with others, there is no server lag, it will help improve my build skill. and I am relatively protected from crashes. On the other hand it can get quite lonely, there is no one to share my work with, I will not have as much time for dogcraft, and there is not the charming clutter of chat on the lower left hand corner that im so fond of. I'm relying on you to help me make the decision. ;)

It's worth giving it a shot a second time to see if you like it. But when you do, it normally and fully is for yourself - people who want that unlimited access and freedom to do whatever they please within that world prefer it. If you want to share builds and get feedback, there's always screenshots and worldsharing, which at least gives you that. Your build skill will get better no matter what as long as you're building.

So all that distills into - do it if you want, but you don't have to. It might be good to have something on standby in case of, IDK, a trip where you have no internet and can't be on the server. I travel a lot so I've chosen that option. I still feel it's worth the time and effort because I enjoy what I *personally* get from playing MC. But it's been fun being where others play as well.

SSP makes you realise how easy we have it on Dogcraft, with homes, teleports, shops, easy access to the end and the ability to immediately pick all your stuff back up when you die.

SSP is good for you. Play it in hardcore for the best experience.

Although I have a great time and experience on Dogcraft, my singleplayer world comes first. And maybe that is because it is already 2 years old and has grown on me by now. No restrictions, having memories by a build and when or what you where doing thinking at that specific moment in time. It's a bit theraputical in that manner. :)

But... A community is also nice, seeing other work and create or even work together. The mods, and rules making it a nice save place to play and create, someting which withheld me from playing on a server before. - Anoying kids - ;)

It really depends on what drives you to play Minecraft. Is it playing with friends? Is it to put time on committing yourself to help out a community? Is it to meet new people through gaming? Or do you just play because every moment you play is unique in its own way?

If you truly love playing Minecraft because it is Minecraft, then try out playing on a survival world all on your own. I'm gonna repeat myself one more time: It depends on why you play, and love Minecraft.

"Desire is the key to motivation, but it's determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commitment to excellence - that will enable you to attain the success you seek." - Mario Andretti

Personally, I would have stopped playing Minecraft a while back if it wasn't for the community aspect. I have no real interest in building efficient farms and in learning the finer game mechanics. The reason I play Minecraft is to contribute to a awesome server community, and to make those contributions the best I can while having a fun time with cool people I've met. Singleplayer just doesn't it do it for me anymore.

I would reiterate others - its personal preference. Neither is a waste if you enjoy it.

I think the best answer to that question lies within. Each one of us will have our own way of doing things. I personally like them both. I love to build on a large scale. I have some world's I still play that are years old. Other times I use them to test out ideas. I have only recently started to play online with others who are not family. When my kids were growing up we always had a server running. I have very quickly found I like the community aspect of it. It is much easier to type /msg Does anyone have a melon seed than it is to walk for days trying to find a melon or dungeon chest.
