Dispenser Issue?

Not sure if this has always been a thing, but for some reason I've noticed that the pumpkins that I've been trying to send up through an item elevator are getting stuck in the dispenser.  I checked on a dispenser by itself and it had the same issue; anyone else come across this?

Have you tried using a dropper instead?

fairly sure dispensers place pumpkins if they're able to, and if they can't, they don't do anything

Just to clarify, dispensers are usually to shoot arrows/potions/lava/water/tnt, and droppers are usually used to throw out items, especially in item elevators
