Hey Cyberdogs,
I was thinking of making a food farm so I don't have to rely on the community farm or a fish farm.  My first choice was to have a cow farm, but even with great saturation and better feeding, it is semi automatic, in which I would have to constantly bread Cows. My second choice was a Chicken farm, as it is fully automated, but it won't provide the best hunger and saturation.  If you could let me know which one I should use, that would be great. Thanks!

Sincerely,
TMK

I say use a chicken farm. it's fully automatic, so you won't have to waste your time on things like breeding and smelting/cooking. Also, if you use a cow farm, every time you breed the cows you will have to wait 20-30 minutes for them to grow into adult cows. although the efficiency of the farm depends on what kind of cow farm you are using. Xisuma released a  video on chicken farms recently so you could use his design for a chicken farm, whereas most cow farms are either outdated or not suitable for the server. (and cow farms use a lot of wheat!)

The minor difference in saturation is not really relevant once you have unlimited food. The real question is whether the bother of breeding cows is worth the additional leather.

Properly used, a survival cow farm is pretty good - you just have to remember to use the kill mechanism, and *then* breed the stock. Next time you need food, the next generation should be ready.

I would go with making a cow farm. As long as you have around 30 or more cows you can get over a stack per harvest. And as cows only take like 20 minutes to grow, you could get around 5 stacks per hour. As long as you are willing to spend a little bit of time collecting wheat which you would only need a few stacks for a massive harvest but only around a stack or so for about 30 cows. With chicken farms, at least for me because I'm so bad at this game, I've struggled making them actually work or be somewhat efficient, even after going afk overnight on a singleplayer world I would only get maybe 5 or 10 cooked chicken.

Cow farm methinks, but use looting3 sword to kill the babies that have grown into adults for the extra meats. You'll have to cook some of the meat, but I just destroyed by herd of about 30 cows and got over a stack of meat, mostly cooked. (fire aspect) But fully auto, go chickens, super easy, can be high yield, and mine has an on/off switch to either shoot an egg to hatch or collect the eggs for later.

A cow farm is definately worth it with Looting (I, II, III) and Fire Aspect II as then it would be
breed cows
make babies fall in a chute
let them grow up while you are working on something else
kill the (previously baby) cows
pretty simple
