Survival Railway Network (SRN)

Mission and Overview
The SRN aims to provide a high quality rail transport network while maintaining scenic viewing. Our network has four main SRN lines that begin at Grand Central Station in Spawn and extend in each cardinal direction. Stations are spread along each main line to provide a place to hop off, enter the NTN, or switch to player built branch lines. Each line has its own line manager who plans the rail line routes and station locations and directs construction.

Line Managers for each line:
North Line/Conductor - darparniox
West Line - Skelleton123
East Line - William278
South Line - Mrs_Diss
(contactable through /mail send [name] in-game, or via discord where you can message us from the official dogcraft channel)

Branch Lines
Branch lines are player built rail lines that connect to a SRN station. They usually lead to a town/city or player base.

If you’d like to create a branch line, please read this guide and then contact the appropriate line manager. They’ll make sure that the line will work from the SRN side of affairs.

Private lines are a less common alternative to Branch Lines. A private line is a rail line that only runs up to a SRN line or station, rather than connect. Private lines are used when a player only wants to travel from their base to the SRN, or a player’s base is just starting out.

Property
The SRN rail lines and stations are considered a build like any other base, farm, town etc. This would usually mean that the ‘100 block rule’ applies when building near them. However, we give building permission near SRN lines to everyone with the following guidelines:

For rail lines:
100 block rule becomes the 0 block rule. Builds may extend right up to and around the rail line.
The rail line itself should not be altered without the permission of the appropriate line manager. Line managers are usually open to this within reason.
Claiming the rail line is not allowed (except in extraordinary circumstances, which will need to be discussed with the appropriate line manager and conductor).
For stations:
Permission needs to be sought to build within 100 blocks of the station (as usual), but will be given in most cases.
Specific building activities within 40 blocks of the station must be checked off with the appropriate line manager.

Please keep in mind that these permissions are for SRN lines only. They are recognisable by their standard design, namely concrete powder surrounded by spruce stairs with stone brick supports. Frequent designs can be found here for cross-checking.

Our lines can cross near other's bases frequently. We make every effort to ensure SRN lines follow the 100 block rule. If for any reason at all that you are unhappy with a piece of line, please let us know so we can resolve the situation together, peacefully.

Nether Transport Network (NTN)

Mission and Overview
The NTN is designed to enable fast and efficient travel. Four boat-on-ice tracks exit the server nether hub in each cardinal direction and run until the world border. Interspersed along the ice tracks are stations that allow travellers to exit the NTN to an overworld location, or the general nether. The NTN is built alongside the SRN, but also extends to further locations that are not rail connected.

Connecting to the NTN
Anyone can make a connection to the NTN via a side-door.

Doors in the NTN can be freely created for any location with any public interest, such as a base, town, or project. Please read this guide before doing so.

Connecting your location with a track connecting to a station is not possible. We have a seperate 'approved stop' design, for side-doors with a cactus, and these connections are built on a case-to-case basis. Your location should be of a reasonable public interest by being useful to others, well-known, and/or impressive before considering this option. These requirements relax the further the location is from spawn. Please contact darparniox about having your side-door approved for a cactus, or any general queries.

Get Involved!
Anyone can get involved in the SRN and NTN. While railway and ice track building opportunities aren’t constant, if you’d like to contribute by building, feel free to approach a line manager for an invite to our SRN discord.

Of course, any material donations are greatly appreciated (namely stone, spruce wood, redstone, glowstone, powered and normal rails, gravel, sand, or normal ice). Donations boxes are currently set up at SRN Headquarters, just north of the Spawn Basin, and at the very start of NTN East track.

Maps
We operate two maps to assist with finding your way around our networks. One is an image map of both networks with terrain and relative distances between features. The other one is found in-game, a 2x2 map of both networks in a simplified view.

I'm interested in building some rail stuff, however I'm pretty useless when it comes to rail/train stations etc.

Is there a tutorial or guide anywhere for the auto-minecart deploying and collection anywhere I can watch for some inspiration?

I really like the servers version of it with the little trap doors!

Here two images + explanation of the basic minecart dispenser:

Sorry about the textures I used there. At that time (2016) Rendog used that texture pack in his mc let's play vids.
The mine cart dispensers used by the SRN in survival3 (2019) might be slightly different from this original version. Perhaps the main difference is using carpet instead of slabs for the station platform. There have also been more elaborate versions with one large combined storage system for all the minecart dispensers in one station.

Also, here's my imgur album on the default station design, from 2016. 19 images:

This is nothing on the sur2 iteration :P

In any case, I've made the image map, and added it to the original post now. You might have seen it on discord already? The 2x2 in-game map is making good progress  :)

Don't know where what goes? Signs say at each station say where the departing line heads, and have co-ords. If you have any idea on how to make that more clear, please let me know.

In regards to the NTN ("nether railway") being more confusing: I'm guessing you mean that you don't know where each door goes. Individual players make those, so it's up to them to label them properly. Aside from that, the NTN is basically one straight, long tunnel.
